This Policy explains how intellectual property works on CrewMag: who owns the content you enter, what limited rights we need to operate the Service, and how we handle reports that something on the platform infringes someone's copyright or other intellectual property rights.
It supplements, and should be read together with, the Terms of Service (in particular §7, Intellectual property) and the Public CV Policy. Where this Policy and the Terms of Service address the same topic, the Terms of Service govern the contractual relationship; this Policy goes into more detail on ownership and on how we handle infringement complaints.
This Policy applies to the CV content you enter, files you upload (photographs, certificates), the CrewMag software and templates themselves, and third-party material that may appear inside a CV, such as an employer's name or logo.
Entering, storing, formatting, publishing, exporting to PDF, or otherwise processing your Content through CrewMag does not transfer ownership of it to us. You keep whatever rights you had in your CV data, photographs, certificates and other uploaded material before you entered them into the Service.
We do not acquire any ownership interest in your Content merely because it passes through our systems, is displayed in the editor, is rendered into a PDF, or is made public through the publish feature.
The Service itself — its software, source code, interface, workflows, CV templates, layouts, PDF formatting, branding and documentation — belongs to the Operator (see Terms of Service §1). This is separate from, and does not extend to, the Content you enter.
You may use the Service and its templates only to create and manage your own CVs. You must not copy, resell, redistribute, reverse-engineer or otherwise exploit the Platform, its templates, or its branding outside that ordinary use.
A generated CV or PDF contains both your Content and CrewMag's template and formatting. Generating it does not give us ownership of your Content, and it does not give you any rights in the template or formatting beyond using it to present your own CV.
To provide the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, format, render and display your Content — this is the same licence described in Terms of Service §7.
This licence is limited to what is needed to run the Service for you: saving your data, showing it in the editor, generating PDF exports, and, where you choose to publish, displaying your Public CV. It is not a transfer of ownership, and it does not give us the right to sell, sublicense, or otherwise use your Content beyond operating the Service for you.
The licence lasts only as long as your Content is stored in the Service and ends when the Content is deleted.
Publishing a CV, as described in the Public CV Policy, makes it visible to anyone with the link — including recruiters, who have no special access beyond that. Publication changes visibility; it does not change ownership.
Publishing a Public CV does not place your Content in the public domain, does not grant viewers any right to reuse, redistribute or build a database from it, and does not waive any third-party rights that may exist in material you have included (see section 6). Withdrawing a Public CV is described in the Public CV Policy §6.
Your CV may include material connected to third parties — an employer's name or logo, a training provider's certificate, a vessel name, or a photograph. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to submit, upload and publish that material.
Certificates, qualifications and similar professional evidence may carry rights belonging to the issuing body, employer or training provider. Uploading or publishing them through CrewMag does not transfer those rights to you or to us.
As set out in Terms of Service §5, we do not verify the Content you enter, including whether you hold the rights to material you upload or reference. The presence of something on CrewMag — a certificate, a company logo, a photograph — does not mean we have confirmed its authenticity, its ownership, or your right to use it.
If you believe material on CrewMag infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, contact support@crewmag.net with enough detail for us to understand the complaint: your identity or that of the rights holder, what material is affected and where it appears, and why you believe it infringes those rights.
We will review the complaint and may, where appropriate, temporarily restrict access to the disputed material while we do. Reviewing a complaint is not itself a finding that infringement has occurred; depending on what we find, we may leave the material as is, remove or restrict it, or ask you or the User who submitted it for more information. If a complaint turns out to be unfounded or is withdrawn, we will restore any material that was temporarily restricted.
As of the effective date of this Policy, CrewMag has not received any copyright or intellectual property complaint under this process.
[LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED] This section describes the Operator's current, informal process for handling intellectual property complaints. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and does not follow any specific jurisdiction's statutory notice-and-takedown procedure. Review before any non-beta release, particularly if the Service starts receiving real complaints or expands into jurisdictions with specific statutory requirements (such as the US DMCA).
This Policy is versioned, in the same way as the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. Each version carries a version number and an effective date. Where a change is material, we will notify registered Users before it takes effect.
